HOSPITAL SUPPORT

BUILDING MATERIAL TOXINS

TOXIC SUBSTANCES AND MICROBES

Hospital support includes the pro-active assessment and control of microbial hazards, infection control, and indoor air quality. We assess building and work environments; we identify sources of toxic substances, noise, and microbial hazards; we evaluate identified exposures; and we recommend control methods. We address routine exposures and environmental unknowns. We review building material components, HVAC system malfunctions, sewer system leaks, and outdoor environmental impact on building air quality. We are prompt and reliable.

SERVICES GENERALLY REQUESTED

  • Indoor air quality investigations
  • Forensic surface sampling for unknowns
  • Review building material MSDSs prior to construction
  • Assess immune suppressed patient exposures to pathogens (e.g., Aspergillus fumigatus)
  • Structural water damage and mold growth investigations
  • Occupational exposures to laboratory chemicals
  • Occupational exposures to surgical suite airborne microbes and hazardous gases
  • Assessment forLegionella exposures
  • Occupational exposures to medical gases (e.g., nitrous oxide) and drugs (e.g., Ribaviron)
  • Assessment of sewer back flow of black water
  • HVAC system air movement and ventilation studies
  • Plumbing and vent pipe leak testing
  • Direct reading and data logging (e.g., recording/documenting) of airborne particulates and toxic gases during maintenance and renovation activities
  • Investigate tainted, defective building materials (e.g., formaldehyde off-gasing from laminated wood flooring)
  • Oversight and testing during renovation and new construction
  • Building post construction LEED testing
  • Environmental health and safety audits
  • Litigation support
